1. Financial Wiz
It's insufficient to just read amounts. Your accountant should be able to sit down on your first visit, flit through your balance sheet and give you an immediate and precise reading of the state of your company. If on first visit they can't do this, grab your hat and make for the door! You want a fantastic cpa and direct and honest guidance can nearly feel numbers and company well-being. They could do it nicely and they can do it forthwith.
2. Big and Little Image Thinker
This is vital. A good accountant understands the detail of your financial statements. This is what all accountants are trained to do. But a great cpa understands the international or structural strengths and weaknesses of your finances and goes beyond conceptualises and publication balancing. They see and develop excellent results for your own company and give you a roadmap of guidance on the best way to get there.
3. Have They Grown Their Own Business?
What's the state of the own company? Can it be in very good condition? This doesn't mean what it does mean is they have a fantastic running company or company that's healthy and profitable, although they've created a corporation. Have they taken risks? Are they progressive and proactive? Are they in step with the times? Do they employ modern technologies? These are good indexes. Choose note if this is happening and if it's, you might be in the appropriate position. If not, find a beanie who's doing just that!
4. Great Communication
Does your accountant stick to account - speak or do they follow best practise clear English included in their communications policy with customers? Are communications strained and laboured or simplified so there is mutual understanding and clarity? You have let's know this is certainly one of the single most important qualities to you personally. Clients tell us they need great, simple, clever help. They don't desire to hear about academic theories on the development of tax laws in NZ over the previous thirty years!
5. What Type of Team Does Your Accountant Have?
An excellent accountant isn't scared to fire team players who are not performing for you, the customer. An excellent accountant will keep looking for key team players who bring to a fantastic job. They go above and beyond to source team members who deliver not just some financials, but quality financials that maximise your return and without cutting corners. There's no sloppy at Slaters. It's about an excellent team. From Tina (our simply fantastic front of house reception individual) through to Harsha, (the leader of our Financials Team) and Beth and Shareena. Excellent staff - longstanding members over many years - great people that work well together for the team and client.
6. Comprehends a Great Business Model.
It is not about a set of financials. An excellent accountant enables you to develop an extremely good, complete business model over many years. We're proud to say we have customers who have been with us 25 years and some of these have now been challenged to grow and prosper their companies even when it is been painful! Those who've stuck with our enormous picture plans reap the benefits. If your accountant doesn't help you develop a healthful, longterm business model, have a think about moving on.
Up clear costs and front payments? And we do not mean "bundling bundles." We decided against these some years past in favour of greater transparency. A clear, fixed price as you are able to pay off or pay in one fell swoop. (Bundling is a monthly payment that can eek away in the background without you ever completely getting the complete price. It is a confusion for clients as they're locked directly into their package and can not ever actually get anything beyond their bundle without paying additional bucks. We do not do that. Not transparent enough for Slaters and we've seen it eventuate into relationship dislocation between partner and customer.) Easy to make a consultation? How about hidden costs? Are there annoying and hourly rates that are sneaky hidden someplace in the fine print? A fantastic cpa is completely transparent about prices and is also quite reachable. They are easy to speak to and come back to you personally immediately via free meetings, phone calls or e-mail. At Slaters you can pop in and catch Brad and Brett for no additional price, on the hop. That is ease!
This can be a biggie. Customers have repeatedly reported they're actually more comfortable with an accountant who is NOT out and around at every social function and assembly. You've told us a wonderful cpa isn't boozing it up at the pub and letting loose with your private financial issues. There's a code of ethics to stick to, and this also has to be taken very, very seriously. An excellent accountant understands they are dealing with soul and the financial heart in their customers and their families and honours that advice so.
These are just a few of the crucial elements you have to look for when sourcing a really good accountant. We hope it helps you.
